What a coincidence. I've just been doing research on George DARLING, a
Civil War veteran who is buried in Maynard, MA. He has a government
headstone for his army service in Company I, 5th Regiment Massachusetts
Volunteer Infantry. Until yesterday, I didn't have his death date. I was
able to find it in the State Death Index. George was born in Brighton, MA
in 1838 and died in Cambridge, MA in 1874. His parents were William
Darling, born in Marlboro, MA, and Mary L. ___, born in Westborough, MA.

George Darling was living in Marlboro at the time of the Civil War and was
a shoe cutter. After the war he settled in the Stow / Maynard area and
worked as a carpenter. His cemetery plot was purchased by Mrs. George
Darling, so he must have married between the time of the 1870 census and
his death in 1874. As always, research is ongoing. There are no burial
records for the lot so I don't know if he is interred there alone.
