According to Eaton's History of Reading, Thomas Kendall of Reading
had 8 daughters. Each of these daughters married in Reading. (VR)
There has been a tradition among these eight families that they name
one of their sons "Kendall"
(e.g. I know of three Kendall Parkers each of whom is DEFINITELY
descended from the Reading Parkers, and there are EIGHTEEN
Kendall Parker telephone directory entries throughout the country.
I'll betcha ...
So back to the top ...
"I show Kendall Parker, b. 1723 as the son of Jonathan and Anna
(Flint) Parker". The Reading VR do as well.
But there are complications!
A Sgt John Parker married Hannah Kendall Nov 13 1667. If any
boy born of subsequent generations is named "Kendall" it is
most reasonable to start with the hypothesis that the boy is
a descendent of John Parker and Hannah Kendall. This is
certainly true of the Kendall Parker born 1677 to John and Hannah
(Kendall) Parker.
In his History of Reading, Eaton identifies Sgt John Parker (bdate unk)
as the son of immigrant Thomas Parker and his wife Amy.
Eaton lists three other sons: Hannaniah (b 1638), Thomas (bdate unk),
and Nathaniel (b 1651), who married and had families.
Further, Eaton associates only two Jonathans to ALL of these four
sons of the immigrant John and his wife Mary.
These two Jonathans were:
1)son of Sgt John born 1681
2)son of Thomas, born 1678 and died soon.
And then Reading VR has Kendall Parker born in Reading
Apr 12 1723 to Lt Jonathan and An[n] (Reading VR)
If all of the above is accurate, then the only Jonathan around in Reading
who could possibly have sired Kendall in 1723 would have been the son
of Sgt John, and this is consistent with the fact that THIS Jonathan's
mother was a Kendall.
HOWEVER, Eaton also says that the Jonathan Parker, son of Sgt John,
(and Hannah Kendall) married Mehitabel Bancroft and then Barbara
Elseley.
And then Eaton identifies a contemporary Jonathan ["probably
a grandson of immigrant Thomas"] as the one who married
Anna Flint (there is no Reading VR marriage record for this couple)
and sired the 1723 Kendall. Something is wrong there, of course.
If you are still with me, let's go to Dracut:
There was a Kindall, son of Kindall & Mary, born in Dracut 1751(ish).
and a Mary, w of Kindall who died 1756. Then there is a 1757
marriage between a Kindall and a Prosilla Astin, presumably the
same man. There are a batch of births for children of a Kendall and
Proscilla up to at least 1773 (Daniel)
There is no record of a death for Prosilla Parker or any spelling
variation I could find. Later in 1777 & 1778 there are two marriage
intents filed in Dracut one for a Kindal (Mrs Jane Jones 1778),
one for a Kindell (Mrs Dolley Richardson, 1777). At first blush
it would seems very likely that they could be for the same man.
However, there is a birth of Susannah to Kendall,Jr & Dollea
Oct 15 1778. This would seem to preclude that the Kendall-Jane
intent was for Kendall,Jr. And just maybe the intent with Jane Jones
was for the Kendall born in 1723 even though there is no death record
for a Priscilla Parker.
(You might get clarification on this by searching Middlesex Probate
records at ancestry.com).
whew!
best of luck
