Thomas GREEN, the immigrant ancestor, was born in England in about
the year 1600, according to deposition that he made Aug. 16, 1662.
Thomas GREEN, probably his son, came to Massachusetts at the age of 15,
in the ship "Planter" which sailed from England on April 2, 1635. The
same name and age appear also in the passenger list of the ship
"Hopewell", which sailed the next day, and are believed to represent the
same Thomas GREEN Jr. Preceding the list of passengers in the "Planter"
is a certificate which states that Thomas came from St. Albans,
Hertfordshire. It seems likely that Thomas GREEN Sr. came to New England
at the same time or a little earlier, and settled at Lynn and Ipswich,
Mass. He was living at Lady MOODY's farm at Lynn about 1646. He removed
to Malden about 1650, and was living there Oct. 28, 1651, when his wife
Elizabeth signed a petition to the general court. He had a farm of 63
acres in the northern part of Malden. He was one of the leading citizens,
serving repeatedly on the grand jury in 1658 as selectman of Malden.
The first wife of Thomas GREEN (I), Elizabeth, whom he married in
England, was the mother of all his children. She died Aug. 22, 1658. He
married (2nd), Sept. 5, 1659, Frances COOK, born 1608, married (1st)
Isaac WHEELER,and (2nd) Richard COOK. She had children by the first two
husbands, none by the third, Thomas GREEN. Thomas GREEN (I) died Dec.
19, 1667. His will dated Nov. 12, 1667 was proved Jan. 15, 1668,
bequeathing to 5 sons, 5 daughters and his wife. The homestead was
situated in the part of Malden now included in Melrose and Wakefield.

who survived him. He settled in Malden, and was called "senior" in the
records. In October, 1670, he purchased of his brother William one-half
of his father's farm, and from that time occupied the old "Mansion
House", buying the other half of the homestead from his brother Henry,
June 13, 1684. He died Oct. 31, 1724, age 79. His will was dated Jan. 3,
