Yes, that is what George Homer Partridge, BS of Boston writes
However:
a)his information is incorrect in at least one place
b)your interpretation is wrong in other places
"Deborah, b. Apr 25 1773; m Kendall, son of David and Rebecca
(BELKNAP) Nichols, of Gardner; resided in Gardner. Children"
Rebecca's surname was BURNAP, not Belnap. There is a
marriage record in Wakefield VR that reads:
Nicolls (see Nichols, Nickols, Nicols)
David and Rebecca Burnap Nov. 3 1763 (church record)*.
The name BELNAP does not appear in either the Reading
or the Wakefield Vital Records
George Patridge writes (back in 1903):
"Deborah, b. Apr 25 1773; m Kendall, son of David and Rebecca
(BELKNAP) Nichols, of Gardner [ME]; resided in Gardner. Children"
I believe that George Partridge was saying that Deborah married
Kendall Nichols of Gardner [Ma] rather than Gardner [Me].
I hope so, since a David and Rebecca Nichols did live there.**
Whatever interpretation we give to George Partridge's statement,
after siring a
David Nichols in Lynn Feb 02, 1766, and a
Kendall in Chelmsford (& Westford VR) a
David & Rebecca Nichols sired several children in Westminster,
Several Nichols with those names married and died in either
Gardner or Westminster.
Rebecca Nichols (wid. of David died there)
A David Nichols (son of David & Rebecca) age 56y 6m died in
Gardner Mass Aug 19, 1822 (subtr 56y 6m from Aug 19 1822 &
you will get abt Feb1766)
Kendall Nichols and Deborah Partridge married in Gardner Mass
And on page 45 of Garder Vital Records:
Amos, s. Kendal and Deborah, April 24, 1793
Asaph, s. Kendal and Deborah, Feb. 25, 1797.
*
As you may have reading somewhere The First Church of
Reading was situated on that portion of land that is now
Wakefield. One can still see there the gravestone of that
John Nichols who was born c1651 and died 1721.
**
Eaton's:Gen. Hist. of Town of Reading:
"David Nichols son of John and Joanna, settled in Gardner, was
father of Isaac, of Gardner, and grandfather of Lyman Nichols,
esq., of Boston president of Boston National Bank."
As you said, a Kendall Nichols was born to a David & Rebecca
Nichols in Chelmsford. That event is recorded in the Vital Records
of both Chelmsford & Westford (not necessarily the same three
people of course, more on that later).
Before that, there was a birth of a David Nichols s. David &
Rebecca Nichols in Lynn Jul 05, 1768. And a death record in
Gardner Mass that reads David Nichols s. David & Rebecca
d. Aug 19, 1822 a 56y 6m.
Following those births to a David & Rebecca there were
births in Westminster (Gardner not yet spun off) for 6
additional children to a David & Rebecca Nichols between
the years 1770 & 1784
History of Westminister:
"Benjamin Nichols was 2nd cousin of David who had previously taken
up his abode in the section of Westminster set off to form Gr [Gardner]
in 1785, as noted on a subsequent page"
Westminster VR have a birth of Isaac Nichols s.David & Rebecca
Nichols Sep 20, 1774 [note: this was before Gardner had been "set off
as a section of Westminster")
Gardner VR have a birth of Lyman s Isaac & Nancy Nichols Jun 30,
1806
Westminster VR have "David Nichols s. David & Rebecca Nichols died
Aug 19, 1822, age 56y 6mo."
So all of this stuff sort of suggests pretty strongly that this family
did not grow up in Gardiner Maine.
And finally there is the Gardner Vital Record entry which reads ...
Nichols, Kendal and Deborah Partridge, Jul 31, 1792.
Then there are two entries in Gardner,Wrcstr,Ma birth records
that read ...
And on page 45 of Garder Vital Records:
Amos, s. Kendal and Deborah, April 24, 1793
Asaph, s. Kendal and Deborah, Feb. 25, 1797.
