I am not related to your family but I have a "LOWELL DAILY JOURNAL AND COURIER" newspaper from Friday evening , June 1, 1855 and I am looking up some names that I have found there.

Under "Deaths" is:
"In Cambridgeport, May 30, suddenly, Benjamin L. Whitney, 45, af the firm of Fearing, Whitney & Co."

I'm not sure if this is you Benjamin Whitney but if it is let me know and I can scan the death announcement for you.
