Subject: NEHGS Inquiry - DeWolfe

Good evening, all -

I have a semi-urgent (i.e. urgent only in my own head)
request for anyone w/access to the NEHGS vitals 1841-1910. I
have stumbled onto a bit of confusion regarding my DeWolfe
ancestors as follows:

I have several non-primary documents (death certificates,
etc.) that list the father of these children as Alfred J.
DeWolfe and Martha Jane Frazier. Other researchers list
their father as Paul Alfred DeWolfe and Martha Jeanne
Fougere. The French --> English change in Martha's name I
understand. I'm in the dark about this Alfred/Paul issue,
though. In the 1920 census, he called himself "Fred" and
"Alfred" in 1930. If he is Paul Alfred, he could obviously
be using his middle name. But he could just as easily be
Alfred James, as well. I'd really like to know what in the
heck his name really was!

I'm sending for birth certificates of all of the children
from the Mass. Archives but in the meantime, could someone
poke into the NEHGS database for me and see what father is
given for any of the below...just one or two will set my
mind at ease:

Alfred James DeWolfe b. 20 Feb 1898 (most likely
Newton)
Harold George DeWolfe b. 07 Sep 1899
Ethel V. (or M.) DeWolfe b. 29 Jun 1901
Mary Loretta DeWolfe b. 17 Nov 1901
Alice DeWolfe b. 1907
Wallace L. DeWolfe b. 29 Aug 1908

I would greatly appreciate any input at all. I've been
working on my other lines and have just started in on my
DeWolfes again. This was a heck of a way to start!

Best Regards from humid Texas,
Michelle M. Haas
