PINE HAWK THEN AND NOW
The Pine Hawk Archaeology site along the banks of the Assabet River was a
significant dig that furthers the knowledge of how Native Americans used
the resources around them. Hear how the site was discovered, how it was
excavated, what was found and where the artifacts can be viewed.
Thursday November 2, 7:30 p.m.
THE NASHOBA BROOK STONE CHAMBER
(a.k.a. The'Potato Cave'): OLD RUMORS, NEW EVIDENCE
Members of the Chamber Restoration Team present information including
local rumors, factual historical background and current thinking about
the chamber and its purpose. Hear them explain the deconstruction,
reconstruction and latest finds and share the future vision for the
broader area.
Sunday November 5, 3:00 p.m.
PEG BROWN, author of HOMETOWN SOLDIERS: Civil War Veterans of
Assabet Village & Maynard, Massachusetts
Peg will present a slide show about Civil War veterans who had ties
to both Acton and Maynard, followed by general discussion about her
book and questions. She is an officer in the Maynard Historical
Society, a member of the Maynard Historical Commission and descended
from two Civil War veterans.

'DAMRELL'S FIRE', A PBS DOCUMENTARY FILM
The Great Boston Fire began November 9, 1872 and over the next
several days became the second most destructive fire in 19th century
America. This film traces the fire's historical impact not just on
Boston but on the nation. Producer Bruce Twickler will be on hand to
explain what went into making this engaging documentary, which has
won national acclaim after showings on educational television.
All programs are free and open to the public. Acton Memorial Library
is at 486 Main St. (Rt. 27) next to Town Hall. The entrance is
reached from Woodbury Lane.
