A few of the large churches have also closed.? St. Jean the Baptist is/was located on Merrimack St. but closed around 1994 I think.? Sacred Heart I believe was located around Moore St. in South Lowell, St. Patrick's near one of the commons.? Most of the churches still stand but I don't know if you can find many records easily.

Subject: [MAMiddle] Churches in Lowell (Places to Marry)

Hello, I thought I could find a page in this web site which showed a picture of some of the large, impressive churches in Lowell. But, on quick look, I didn't find one. http://library.uml.edu/clh/ Perhaps someone else could find a site which showed pictures of the churches. I'm in Lowell often enough that I know there are at least 3 - large, impressive Catholic Churches in the downtown area. Unfortunately, I don't know their names ! I'm mentioning this because sometimes a young couple who wish to marry - might visit a very nice church and decide "that" is where they would like to get married ! In addition, I know of a young couple who is considering getting married ... on a "cruise around Boston Harbor." Think of that possibility - when trying to find a place where your ancestors married ! :o) Or in the news you hear about couples who get married -- on a beach on the shore of an ocean ! (There are places in Maine !
where they have a gazebo on the beach - where they will arrange a marriage for you.) Speaking of unusual places to get married ... I wonder when "Las Vegas" started being a place to get married ! :o) Food for thought !
