Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

I'm looking for the names of the parents of John Allen.

What I know about him is that he married a Lavina Wyman. I have 4 different
marriage dates for this couple:
Nov. 29, 1794
Dec. 28, 1794
Jan. 4, 1795
Jan. 7, 1795
Two of these dates came from Family Search .org. Family Search does not
list the parents of John Allen.

I have been told that parents weren't listed on marriage records during this
time frame, unless the couple was underage, or the groom was not from the
area....

I'm not quite sure if they even married in Woburn. But, Lavina was born and
raised there, and John and Lavina's first 4 (maybe even more than 4)
children of 12, were born there.

In 1800 John Allen, Lavina and children left Woburn and came to Canada.
They came up here with Philemon Wright. I know a lot about John Allen and
Lavina once they arrived here, but I can't find out who his parents were.

I'm hesitant to subscribe to NEHGS again, in case his parents are not
listed there. He was born c1773, but maybe or maybe not in Woburn.

I feel like I am not looking at something that should be very obvious, like
I'm missing something.
I have looked at many sources on the web, books, cd's, etc....but there are
so many John Allen's and none of these sources mention his marriage to
Lavina, so I can't be certain it's the guy I'm looking for.

Wyman.org, Wrightfamily.ca, and other sites list him and her but not his
parents.
Could not find the couple on Ancestry.com

I've checked : Genealogical Notes on the Founding of New England, by Flagg
Genealogical Dictionary of New England by Savage
Pioneers of Massachusetts, by Pope
The Loyalists of Massachusetts by Stark
I have oodles of NEHGS publications (I used to be a member a couple of years
ago), and I have spent last night and all day today reading them....nothing.

Lavina's parents were Jonathan Wyman(1734-1774) and Abigail
Wright(1741-1787). I have a birthdate for Lavina as Oct. 20, 1770.
John Allen died in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada on Sep. 10 1836. Lavina Wyman
died in Aylmer, Quebec, Canada in 1847. From what I can tell, their hard
work of settling in virgin forests, and clearing the land, enabled to live a
comfortable life, in later years.

What should I be looking at to find the names of John Allen's parents?
