Since I now know I am a descendant of Richard Swain, I have been reading
books about Nantucket. Some, historical, which seem to indicate a tremendous
amount of record keeping from the very beginning. I am wondering if there is
information farther down the line about individuals. I am reading Swains of
Nantucket, Tales and Trails, step by step, have been reading The History of
Nantucket.by Alexander Starbuck, and some other interesting books. The most
fascinating one I am reading is the historical fiction about the life of
Mary Coffin Starbuck- it gives such a good picture of what life was like
there.

My ggg grandfather, Shubael Swain, moved to NYC from Nantucket. I can trace
his lineage all the way back, of course, but I would like to know more about
his parents and grandparents, at least. They are Ebenzer Swain and Lydia
Ellis and Ebenzer Swain and Lydia Giles. I have read his parents will. Does
anyone know any sources for finding out more information besides dates and
wills? It would be nice to say something about them, besides the fact that
they lived during the time of deprivation, due to the war. Thanks, Sue
