A good point, Susan. Stratton says succinctly,"Sometime during the
early years the colony's highest governing body began to be called the
'court,' a term used in corporations at the time to describe the
totality of stockholders." (_Plymouth Colony_.p. 143), and it is easy
to confuse the records of this court with trial records. Of course PCR
does also include records of some trials.

Susan and Dale also asked what Lee Anne wanted checked. Lee Anne sent
me a message saying,

"Harlow,

I am trying to find out if the records contain any clues to whether or not
Israel Cole of Eastham and Samuel Bates of Wareham left the area and, if
they did, where they went."

I hope Lee Anne is reading this and can expand on that. I just started looking, and haven't had much time. Susan and Dale probably know where Israel #1's will 0f 1724 ism (I don't). I don't know which Israel Cole you need Lee Anne, but the Hopkins 5 gen., which I don't have, may be helpful. For the moment, I believe from a few sources (one is a genealogy of the Blankenbeckler family and another of the Burgess family) that Israel b. 1653 had a son Israel who in turn had a son Israel, and that Israel #3 left Eastham ca. 1750 and went to NY and the the Holston Settlements in VA (look for the Holston River in southwest VA) . Before going too far it would be helpful to know which Israel we're talking about--same with Samuel Bates.

Incidentally, I looked at the CD Susan mentioned for Israel Cole and didn't find anything.
