Thank you, Merry, for posing this query, and thank you, Dale, for your
response. I have long had the same question.

I have another Stetson question:
Torrey shows a marriage between Timothy TYLESTON and Hannah (STETSON) 5 Jan
1696/7 in Scituate. The Scituate VRs give the same date but no surname for
the bride.

Can anyone with access to Torrey's sources tell me what his source was for
the surname Stetson for Hannah? Did he have what would be considered a
primary source?

If Hannah was indeed a Stetson, was she the Hannah b. to Benjamin Stetson
and Bethia Hawke on 1 June 1679? (I've checked the wills of Benjamin and
his father Robert and find no Hannah Tyleston mentioned--at least in the
parts that are legible.) A Timothy and Hannah Tileston are buried in
Dorchester North Burying Ground in Boston, Hannah having died May 27, 1749,
and Timothy January 04, 1736/37. I suspect they are the same couple
mentioned in the Scituate Marriages.
