We commence with John Pool who married Mary Pratt 4 Jan 1732/33 acc. to
Chamberlain, in his "History of Weymouth Massachusetts" (see p.477), who
said they lived in Weymouth, Norfolk County.

Besides listing their children (all b. there, and many cited in Weymouth
Vital records), Chamberlain says that one dau., Betty, married a Beal,
without any justification for saying so. There is no such marriage
listed in Weymouth V. R.'s. (more about her later.)

Another dau., Ruth, married Jacob Beal of Hingham 17 Sep 1761, proved
by Weymouth V. R.'s, and so stated by Lincoln in his "The History of
Hingham Massachusetts". Lincoln, in book ii:66 says Ruth was of
Abington. This statement raised a question in my mind, so I found a
fact that the bounds between Abington and Weymouth were established 31
Mar 1847 (see p.11 of Galvin's "Historical Data Relating to Counties,
Cities and Towns in Massachusetts ")

Chamberlain says that son Joseph lived in Abington.

It not being likely that they alone lived in Abington, it is fair to say
the whole faily lived in that part of Weymouth now Abington.

Now back to the Betty who is said to have married a Beal. There is no
such marriage listed by Lincoln or in Weymouth Vital records. On a
hunch, I checked the Abington Vital records for such a marriage, but
found none to a Beal. But I did find that a Betty Pool married in
Abington, on Aug 16, 1792, John Lendell Bennet. As neither was said to
have been of another place in the intentions, it is fair to say they
were both considered to be of Abington. Checking for Betty's birth in
Abington, none was found, so she was not of another contemporary family.

My conclusions are that the subject John Pools were of what is now
Abington, Plymouth County; that their family was all born there; and
that their daughter Betty married John Lendell Bennet, not an
unidentified Beal.

If someone has information to the contrary, I would certainly like to know.
