Then your CD is incorrect. There is a entry for her under births in
Abington VR, but it is not a record of her birth, just the year of
her birth as given by her Whitman gravestone:

"BATES ... Mary H., w. Richmond Nash, ---, 1813. G.R.13." (Abington VR 1:21)
G.R.13. - gravestone record, Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman

Whitman was originally the southern part of Abington. Gravestone
records for some Whitman and Rockland cemeteries are included in
Abington VR because those cemeteries were in Whitman until after 1850.

Although that page in the state copy of the vital records is in very
poor condition, it shows that Mary H. Nash, widow, died of heart
disease and gangrene 04-Aug-1895 at Whitman, aged 81 years, 10 months
and 11 days. Her place of birth is shown as Richmond, Virginia, and
her parents as Christopher Bates, born at East Bridgewater (although
it would then have been Bridgewater) and Polly Howland, born at
Hanson. (MA VR 455:673)

Richmond Nash, a married carpenter, died of typhoid fever 06-Feb-1852
at East Bridgewater, aged 38 years, 6 months. His place of birth is
shown as Abington. What little is written under the names of his
parents is unreadable, but might simply be "Nash." (MA VR 67:245)

His birth entry reads:

"NASH ... Richmond, s. Luke Jr. and Ruth, Dec. 21, 1813. [[h. Mary H.
(Bates)] G.R.13.]" (Abington VR 1:146)
G.R.13. - gravestone record, Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman

>Massachusetts Town Marriage Records Record

>Spouse: Mary H. Bates
>Marriage Date: Oct. 1, 1835
>Marriage Place: Bridgewater
>Source: Vital Records of Bridgewater
>Full Text: Richmond [int. of Abington] and Mary H. Bates, Oct. 1, 1835.
>(MARY H. BATES of East Bridgewater)

Your CD is again incorrect. There is no such marriage entry in Bridgewater VR.

The marriage entries I find are:

"NASH ... Richmond and Mary H. Bates of E. Bridgewater, Oct. 1,
1835." (Abington VR 2:141)

"NASH ... Richmond [int. of Abington] and Mary H. Bates, Oct. 1,
1835." (East Bridgewater VR 260)

They were not married at Bridgewater, but at either Abington or East
Bridgewater. In the absence of a church record citation I cannot tell
which. Note that there is no asterisk after either entry, so
intentions were recorded in both towns.

Abington VR shows four daughters born to this couple between 1837 and
1847, but no sons.
