The farm of Benjamin Stetson, 3rd, a farm of 60 acres, was laid out from the ocmmon lands of Scituate to James Bates about 1690. Cornet Stetson immediately purchased and deeded it to his son, Capt. Benjamin, (Plymouth rec. B. 4, p. 76). It was owned successively by Cornet Stetson, Capt. Benjamin Stetson, Benjamin Stetson, 2nd, and Benjamin Stetson, 3rd. The deed from Benjamin Stetson, end, to Benjamin Stetson, 3rd, in 1725, the year in which Benjamin, 3rd, was married, was a deed of 81 acres, "being part of 2 60 acre lots," the original James Bates lot and the original John Bates lot and the original John Vassal lot. (Plymouth Rec., B. 22, p. 10). He built his house in 1729 and with his descendants occuppied it for two generations, Benjamin 3rd, was four times chosen selectman of Hanover and six times moderator at town meetings.

Removed from Scituate to Hanover about 1735. He occupied the very large house on Union st. now owned by Charles H. and Percy W. Dwelley. Abijah's descendnats lived here until 1856.
