First Generation

1. Lemuel TURNER was born about 1720 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was Baptized on 14 Aug 1720 in Second Church, Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts.1 Vital Records of Plympton, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850, Published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society at the Robert Henry Eddy Memorial Rooms at the charge of The Eddy Town-Record Fund, Boston, Mass., 1923. p. 269.
There is room for little doubt that the ancestors of the Turners of Durham came from Hanover or Scituate, mass. Lemuel Turner and Abigail Starbird of North Yarmouth (Freeport) were married 16 Jan. 1755. They were, doubtless, the parents of Isaac and Ezekiel who settled in Durham, and also of Desire, who married Stephen Weston. The home of the Turner family in Freeport was near Mast Landing. Lemuel Turner was Revolutionay soldier, as were also his sons Isaac and Starbird.

Lemuel TURNER and Abigail STARBIRD were married on 16 Jan 1755.2 Abigail STARBIRD was born. Lemuel TURNER and Abigail STARBIRD had the following children:

Second Generation

of North Yarmouth.

Desire TURNER and Stephen WESTON were married on 28 Nov 1776.3 Stephen WESTON was born on 21 Feb 1752.3 He died about 1820 in Freeport, Cumberland, Maine.6 History of Durham, Maine with Genealogical Notes, by Everett S. He is a descendant of John Weston, who came from Buckinghamshire to Salem in 1644 at age of 13 and married Sarah Fitch in 1653, (See North's History of Augusta, p. 952.)
He purchased his farm in Durham 10 Dec. 1776 and built his house on "Weston Hill," County Road. The house is still standing. The first nine children wer born in Durham; the last tw at Crotch Island. He died in Freeport about 1820. Desire TURNER and Stephen WESTON had the following children:

He was drowned while mackerel-catching at age of about 55 years.

Ezekiel TURNER and Joanna ROBERTS were married on 12 Jan 1792.5 Joanna ROBERTS (daughter of Vincent ROBERTS and Susanna YORK) was born on 1 Oct 1773.5 History of Durham, Maine with Genealogical Notes, by Everett S. She had fifteen children. Her home was not far from te Stone Mill. She possessed a deeply religious nature. Her faith is illustrated in her daily prayer for twenty years that her son William, supposed to have been lost at sea, minght yet return to her. One day he walked in with thrilling adventures to tell of life among the islands of the sea and of hair-breath escapes from cannibals, etc. One night, when her husband was away, the wolves surrounded her cabin. The watch-dog became so furious that he had to be released and was torn in pieces by the pack.
Notwithstanding scanty means she was gererous in feeding the hurngry and caring for orpans. She rembered the prayer-meeting on Hezekiah Gerrish's hill, wen she separated from her brother, the Rev. Daniel Roberts, wlswhere mentioned in this history. Ezekiel TURNER and Joanna ROBERTS had the following children:
