Hi John,
Im in Australia. My branch of Matchetts was Robert Matchett b 1822 and m
Mary Carrick in 1842 and came from Armagh Ireland in to Australia1852. At
the same time cousins arrived in Australia. All the early Matchett from
Drumcree Armagh were related.
Matchetts can be traced back to England, Scotland and then Northern Ireland.
As each family had many children it is a huge job to work them all out.
Rev John Matchett was a rector of Gimingham England 1577 to his death 1592
Rev James Matchett went to Ireland 1612 he was a Rector of Armagh in
Northern Ireland. In 1612 rector of Drumcree and adjoining Parish Kilmore.
The Matchett of Armagh are descendant from James.
A James Matchett in Australia did a lot of Research on the Matchetts from
Armagh.
I hope this might be of help and I have a lovely holiday. Let me know how
you go in your researc
regards
Susan Smith
