Yes, Bill, the list has been quiet. But we've been working. I can shed some light on the "missing" children of Benjamin Matthews and Mary Sauls, but as always, genealogical research generates more new questions than answers.

Banjamin Matthews (1748-17 Oct 1818) married Mary Sauls (d.1806) [Who can document "Mary Elizabeth"?] moved from Nash County, North Carolina, [sold land 13 Nov 1797] to Warren County, Georgia, before December 1800. [witnessed the deed when his brother Joel bought land 3 Dec 1800] Mary died, Benjamin married 6 Dec 1806 Rebecca Pierson, widow Brown (12 Dec 1772-13 Dec 1846) Benjamin drew land in Warren County in the Land Lotteries of 1805 and 1814. This land fell into Twiggs County. Rebecca drew land in the Lottery of 1821, in Monroe County, which fell into Upson County. Benjamin's children:

1. John Matthews (1776-1861) m.1808 Mary "Polly" Rogers lived in Washington Co, Georgia until 1833, then Upson Co, Georgia, and moved to Scott, Co, Mississippi, by 1844.
2. Elizabeth Mathis (1777-1865) m. Peter Jarrett Goza (d.1839) moved to Mississippi 1818, Missouri, back to Chester Co, South Carolina by 1820, and after Peter's death to Hot Springs Co, Arkansas.
3. Benjamin Matthews (1787-after1850) m(1) Mary "Polly" Jones m(2) Sarah; lived in Wilkinson Co, Georgia at least until 1833 [jury list] and by 1850 lived in Marion Co, Georgia.
4. Allen Matthews (25 Mar 1789 - after 1870) m. Sity Vious Riley (1789-1855) moved to Lawrence Co, Mississippi by1822, after Sity's death to Simpson Co, Miss. [does ANYONE have his death date?]
5. Mary Matthews (1792 -after 1870) m. Thomas Jones and lived in Twiggs County, Georgia
6. Loderick Matthews 1 Nov 1794-25 Apr 1855) m.1818 Mary Harrell (1798-1874) moved to Russell Co, Alabama in 1833, and to Union County, Arkansas in 1844, then to Jackson Co, Texas, in 1851.
7. Arthur Matthews (24 June 1798-15 Feb 1881) m.1821 Elizabeth Harrell, m.1844 Phebe, widow Youngblood. He moved to Russell Co, Alabama, in 1833, and to Union Co, Arkansas, in 1844.
8. Amasa "Macy" Matthews (1 Jan 1801 - 24 May 1874) m.1818 Levi Jones (1790-after 1880) moved to Russell Co, Alabama, in 1833, then settled at Notasulga, Macon Co, Alabama [Please note correct spelling of her name. Whoever had her date of death: what source? anything else?]
9. Sarah "Sallie" Mathis (15 May 1803-27 Mar 1857) m.1824 John G Hays (1803-1887) moved to Russell Co, Alabama, in 1833, and to Choctow Co, Mississippi by 1850, land fell into Webster Co.
10. Joel Matthews (18 Apr 1808-9 May 1892) m.1829 Mourning Trice (1812-1879) judge and politician in Upson County, Georgia.
11. Jeremiah Matthews (1812-1882) m.1833 Nancy Trice (1816-1851) lived in Upson Co, Georgia

23. Saul Sumas Goza (1807) m.1837 Lucinda Dunn, Union Co, Arkansas
24. Nancy L. Goza (1810)
25. Joshua Goza (1812-1880) m.1842 Elinor Phelan, lived in Gibson Co, Tennessee

28. Benjamin Goza (1824-1898) m.1853 Sarah Brown, lived in Arkansas

31. (? Levi Matthews (1818-1901) of Twiggs County was POSSIBLY son of Benjamin)
32. Mary Ann Matthews (1824) m.1837 Isaac Underwood lived next door to Benjamin in 1850
Other children not yet identified. 1820 Census showed 2 girls and 1 boy under age 10.

4. Allen Matthews and Sity Riley CORRECTION
42. Emmaline Malisey Matthews (1815-1860/1870) m.1838 James Peters Lived in Winn Pr, Louisiana, in 1860, and in Navarro Co, Texas, in 1870 with same children but new wife Mary.
NOTE: Emmaline DID NOT EVER marry Alexander Ferguson. That was a speculation I was looking into a few years ago, and mentioned in a letter to another researcher. It proved a false lead, and I eventually found them in Winn Pr. Please delete all references to Ferguson.

5. Mary Matthews and Thomas Jones. Probably other children, Four Thomas Joneses in a county with a burned court house is hard to trace. We need a descendant. But this one child I'm sure of: Note name of second child. And Mary lived with them in 1870.

8. Amasa Matthews and Levi Jones apparently had three daughters only, one of whom was

Sarah's husband was dead (or gone) by 1850, when Sarah lived next door to Levy Jones on one side and a Griffin Matthews (b.1808) on the other side.
