Hello,
As a new subscriber, I am hoping that someone on this list can help me
with my 'Matthews' brickwall.

Thomasina Matthews b.17 January, 1799 in Marazion, Cornwall. On some
documents her birth place is just listed as 'near Penzance'. This is
all I know about Thomasina's life in Cornwall. I don't have any parents
names or siblings.

On the 30 March, 1827, she was convicted of Great Larceny and sentenced
to 14 years transportation to Van Diemens Land. Her crime: recieving
stolen property. Her colonial records list her as a dairywoman, able to
read and write, and Protestant. Thomasina married in Van Diemens Land
and her record was unblemished from the time she arrived in this
country. She and her husband went on to establish one of the major
pastoral families in Victoria, Australia. Indeed, some of the older
members were horrified to learn of the convict history. :o)

I would dearly love to find out more about Thomasina, but have had no
luck to date. If anyone can help me or offer any suggestions, I would
be grateful.
Terri.
