I found a book at our state library that is all about Athol in Worcester
County and was published in the mid 1800s. When it talks about the formation
of Athol it says that among the first settlers and officials of the town were
an Ephraim and Asa SMITH who came from Hadley, Worcester County, and settled
Athol. I can't seem to find a connection to Ephraim and Asa, can anyone out
there help me? Asa was born ca 1740 and Ephraim was born March 12, 1711; I
thought Ephraim might be Asa's father, but have found nothing to provide a
connection. The book at the library is in horrible condition and cannot be
copied and it is hard to read because it is in pieces, in a box.
