This was also posted to the MACLINTON mailing list.
I sent an inquiry to St John the Evangelist Church concerning the deaths and
burials of my great grandparents: John Kirby and Hannah Ferguson Kirby. And
they sent me not only the dates and plot information but also the dates and
plot information for everyone in the family plot down to 1990.
My great grandparents:
John Kirby [June 1841- Nov 1908]
Hannah Kirby [ July 1839 - Dec 1904]
Some of their children:
Michael J Kirby [July 1864 - July 1904]
Thomas Francis Kirby [ April 1866 - March 1905]
Dr James Kirby [July 1876 - Sept 1918]
Mary Kirby O'Malley [Nov 1873 - 28 Oct 1939]
Mary's Husband: James P O'Malley died April 1917
Mary's daughter: Eleanor O'Malley Howe [b 1914 - 4 Feb 1990]
Daughter of Thomas Francis Kirby: Alice G Kirby Howard born 1893 - died
17 Nov 1974. Alice's husband: John Howard died 28 Sept 1949.
I had many of the birth dates but didn't know when they died.
What I find fascinating is that the descendents of John and Hannah were still
living at 57 Winter Street until past the time of Mary O'Malley's death.
The last person in the family listed at that address in the family was a J.
Ronald Howe as the person responsible for the upkeep of the plot. I don't
know if that was Eleanor's husband or son.
It would be interesting to know if the house is still there with family in it
or if it has gone the way of many houses and torn down for the new. It would
be over 100 years old if it is still there.
Other names listed were: Marge O'Malley died 2 Sept 1986
and Lillian Kirby died Sept 1908. I think that Lillian was my father's sister
that died before he was born.
I am thinking that Marge O'Malley may have been the wife of Richard O'Malley
the son of Mary Kirby and James P OMalley or their own daughter Margaret born
1911.
Anyway, the point I am making is that the church will help you with finding
Catholic ancestors buried at St John's Cemetery in Lancaster. And also
perhaps some of these people may be related to one of you.
