Ken -
Was doing some research in the library today and came across the following:
Excerpts by Charles Houghton, Leominster Historical Society Paper on Early Military Historiy dated Jun 16, 1909.
At the alarm at Lexington April 1775...The Leominster roster included Rufus Houghton. His company was enlisted for eight months for the Continental Service under command of Col. Asa Whitcomb and were stationed a Prospect Hill, in Cambridge. The company name was "Continental 23rd Regiment of Foot"
In a compilation of veteran grave markers done by the Leominster Veterans the following Houghtons are noted...
Revolutionary War
Abiathar Sr. b. 1/21/1725 - d. 1/28/1777
Abiathar Jr. b. 1/1/1757 - d. 5/18/1807
Elijah
Joseph
Oliver
Robert
Rufus b. 5/14/1751- d. 1/1/1776
As I stated previously, the Houghton family were one of the first settlers in Leominster (once was part of Lancaster). There is a whole genealogy published on the Houghton's.
