I had to chuckle when I saw your post. Just last week, I had a student ask
where the term Podunk came from. (Common term for any small town with one
stop light or less. ha ha) We went online in search of, what I thought at
the time, trivia.
Wish I could remember the exact details now. Though I do remember reading
that it was the Indian name of a river in MA. The small settlement situated
nearby was then called Podunk. The printed info is on my desk at school. If
you don't recv an answer from someone else by tomorrow, I will send a reply
with more detail.
