Hi

Are there any Militia buffs among you? I am doing research on a John Avery who was an original leader of the Sons of Liberty. There is a reference in our town history that says "General John Avery" lived at the Old Abbey for several months at the early part of the revolutionary war.

I am trying to locate a resource where I might find out how he got his commission as a General. I don't believe he served in the Continental Army because he is Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth by 1776.

If any one can point me in the right direction I would be extremely appreciative.
