I have a Cornelius Murphy, age 18, bootmaker from Milford, enlisted in the
57th Regiment, Volunteer Infantry. enlisted Dec 15, 1863, mustered in Jan.
4, 1864, killed June 17, 1864 at Petersburg, Va.

This was copied from an on-line 1860 census:
1860 United States Federal Census-Milford, Worchester County, Mass.
(this was found on pages near Owen Coneley and family, could be Peter's
family????)
page 28- Cornelius COLLINS, age 29, bootbottomer, real estate $425, born
Ireland
Johanna COLLINS, age 26, born Ireland
Peter COLLINS, age 4, born Massachusetts
John COLLINS, age 11/12, born Massachusetts
page 29, same house, different family number
Mary MURPHY, age 42, born Ireland
Peter MURPHY, age 17, bootbottomer, born Ireland
Cornelius MURPHY, AGE 16, bootbottomer, born Ireland
Morris, MURPHY, age 11, born Ireland

Any ideas about confirming that the CORNELIUS MURPHY is the same person.
In the family the next mention of Cornelius is his brother, Peter Murphy's
obituary in 1922. There it says Cornelius was killed at Gettysburg.
"His(Peter's) first residence in America was in Boston, Massachusetts, where
he hired out as an apprentice to a cobbler.
at the outbreak of the Civil War he and his brother, Cornelius enlisted in
the 9th Massachusetts, the old Irish Brigade of the Civil War, and the 69th
New York of the World War. When his mother, then a widow, learned of the
enlistment she petitioned for his release for her support. Cornelius was
color bearer for his regiment and fell in the first engagement at
Gettysburg." Peter died in Letcher, South Dakota.

I know sometimes obituaries can get mixed up on details of 50 years earlier,
for whatever reason. thanks for any ideas.
