CHARLTON -- Frank R. ``Buster'' Stake Jr., 78, of 22 Lelandville Road,
a World War II veteran, died Saturday, April 27, in Hubbard Regional
Hospital, Webster, after an illness.
His wife, Anna M. (Warren) Stake, died in 1971. He leaves two
daughters, Debra A. Ciesluk and Nancy E. Landry, both of Charlton; a
sister, Barbara Waddell of Sun City, Calif.; two grandchildren; nieces
and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Frank R. and Mildred
(Arkwell) Stake Sr., and lived here for 45 years. He graduated from
South High School in Worcester. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World
War II, and later joined the Army National Guard.
Mr. Stake was a court officer at Worcester Central District Court for
more than 15 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of American
Legion Post 391, the Quinebaug Lodge of Masons in Southbridge, and the
Worcester County Deputy Sheriffs. He received a community service
award from the Charlton board of selectmen for his 36 years of service
on various boards and committees including the Cemetery Commission,
the Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School Building and
School Committees, Charlton Town Treasurer and the Charlton Democratic
Town Committee.
The funeral with military honors will be held Wednesday, May 1, from
Robert J. Miller-Charlton Funeral Home, 175 Old Worcester Road, with a
Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, H. Putnam Road. Burial will be
in West Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April
30, in the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Anna M. Stake Scholarship Fund,
c/o Culinary Arts Dept. at Bay Path Regional Vocational High School,
57 Old Muggett Hill Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
