ATHOL -- Clyde Z. Stoddard, 87, of 2106 White Pond Road,
died Saturday, Nov. 30, at home.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Lyla A. (Robbins) Stoddard;
two sons, Ralph S. Stoddard of Athol and David E. Stoddard
of Orange; a daughter, Gloria J. Meuse of Athol; 10 grandchildren;
19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Albert, Chester and William Stoddard and
Earl Stoddard Sr.; and four sisters, Bernice Buttrick, Emma Buskey,
Bertha Blanchard and Goldie Waite, predeceased him.
He was born in Orange, son of Harry S. and Effie M. (Totman)
Stoddard. He attended Athol schools.

Mr. Stoddard worked for L.S. Starrett Co. for 45 years, retiring in
1980.
After retiring, he built a woodworking shop. He previously worked
at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries, cutting cordwood for the
town of Orange. He was a member of the L.S. Starrett Co.
25 Year Club, the Wheelerville Community Club, and the
Atlantic Coast Old Timers Auto Racing Club. He was a former
member of the Petersham Gun Club and the Tully City Council Club.
He attended South Athol United Methodist Church.

He obtained his pilot's license in 1941. He had been an amateur boxer.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing and playing pool.
He followed auto racing for more than 66 years and built his own
midget race car.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in
South Athol United Methodist Church, 65 Morgan Ave.,
South Athol. Private burial will be held in Silver Lake Cemetery
at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be 6 to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Athol Santa Fund, c/o the Athol Daily News,
PO Box 1000, Athol, MA 01331; or to the Orange Santa Fund,
PO Box 193, Orange, MA 01364. Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home,
146 Main St., is directing arrangements.
