Dexter Allen SMITH, 89, died of cancer at home on January 17, 2005. Born
Jan. 2, 1916, Mr. SMITH was the 12th generation of his family to live in
Lexington, where he lived his entire life. Graduating in 1933 from
Phillips Exeter Academy, 1937 from Dartmouth College, and 1939 from
Harvard Business School.
Following his service in the Navy, he became Vice President of
Parke Snows, Inc. until retirement.
His marriages to Marjorie A. MORTIMER and Beverly J. SHOFFNER
ended in divorce.
He is survived by three children from his 1st marriage, Sharon F.
SMITH of Silver Spring, MD, Fay S. JOHNSON of Camarillo, CA and Allen D.
SMITH of Lexington, MA.; (3) grandchildren, Lily E. JOHNSON & Chase H.
JOHNSON of Camarillo, CA, and Holly A. SMITH of Lexington.
He was a true gentleman and a scholar. A private Memorial Service
was held on January 22, 2005 in Lexington.
