I was told my great grandfather divorced my great grandmother in Boston
around 1910. More details emerge; great grandfather ran away and hid from
her for the rest of his life! I doubt this was because there was a legal
dissolution to the marriage.

I'm sure that if there was a divorce the records would be with teh court
clerk of whatever court was in charge of divorce.

Divorce was frowned on, but I suspect it could matter where you were; in the
area on the eastern side of Lake George, in New York State (counties changed
over time), people seemed to be divorcing right and left!

I think it was more common, where there was real cause (as there was in my
great grandparents' case), or even if there wasn't, for one party to simply
leave - and hide. They didn't have the Internet nor interstate
cooperation for tracking people. Alot of people disappeared across town!
