DR. ROCKWOOD THAYER, RETIRED SURGEON in City

DR. ROCKWOOD H. THAYER, 79, of 2 Laconia Road, a Worcester surgeon died
yesterday in Holden District Hospital, Holden.

His offices were at 27 Elm St. He retied in 1979.

DR. THAYER was graduated from TUFTS Medical College in 1926, and was an
instructor of physiology at TUFTS for three years. He did his surgical internship
at ST. FRANCIS Hospital, New York City. He was surgeon in Chief at Harvard
Hospital in Worcester and LOUIS PASTEUR Hospital, New York City. He also was
consulting surgeon at Holden District Hospital, and a member of the courtesy
staffs of HAHNEMANN and FAIRLAWN Hospitals.

He leaves his wife, DOROTHY B. (ALLARD) THAYER; three sons, DR. BRUCE A.
THAYER of Needham, DR. JOHN D. THAYER of Princeton, and RICHARD C. THAYER of
Springfield, PA; 10 grandchildren and a great grandson.

He was born in Worcester, son of CHARLES S. and LULU M. (HEWETT) THAYER.

DR. THAYER was a member of A.T.O Delta Delta, Phi Chi at TUFTS, Athelstan
Lodge of Masons and Massachusetts Consistory. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

He was a past president of the Worcester County University of New Hampshire
Alumni. He was a life member of the American College of Surgeons, a member of
the Massachusetts College of Surgeons, new England Obstetrical and
Gynecological Society, and had been a member of the advistory committee of the First
Federal Savings and Loan Association.

For many years he was a breeder of champion English Pointers.

He was a past president and director of the American Pointer Club, a member
of the American Lily Society, Sierra Club, National Wildlife Association,
Massachusetts Lodge of Elks, National Audubon Society, a charter member and former
treasurer and director of the Rutland Sportsman Club, a member of
Massachusetts Land League, Worcester Horticulture Society, Worcester County Kennel Club,
Framingham Kennel Club, and the Worcester Country Club.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in MILES Funeral Home, 1158
Main Street, Holden. The REV. PETER T. ELVIN, will officiate. Burial will be
in Grove Cemetery, Holden.

There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holden District Hospital, Boyden Road,
Holden.
