After reading The Eastman column I found that Ancestry is not offering this
for free, but, Dick's letter gave the Archives of Canada site to look at.
The only problem being there is no surname index. So I went to Ancestry and
did a search (free but to look at the entry you have to subscribe)

FROM ANCESTRY:

Name: Thomas Parent

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1831

Birthplace: Canada

Born of Canadian Parents: Yes

Province: Canada

District: Rimouski County

District Number: 24

Sub-District: Rimouski

Sub-District Number: 329

Page: 69

Line: 28

Roll: C_1135

Schedule: A

Next I went to:

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/1851/001005-100.01-e.html

Census of 1851
Basic Search

Canada-East (Quebec)

Geographic Location/Rimouski

>From the list I chose:

Province/Territory: Canada East (Quebec)

District Name: Rimouski (county)

District Number: 24
Sub-district Name/Description:
Rimouski
parish
St. Germain
Sub-district Number:
329

Schedule: A

Reference: Library and Archives Canada, RG31 Microfilm Reel Number: C-1135

I looked through all the entries for Page 69 but this person was not listed.
Has anyone else tried this with success?
