My husband has been doing a genealogy search, and in the process found his great-grandfather (Matthew Callahan) at Munson State Hospital in the 1930 Census. Does anyone know if the cities/towns kept death record for patients? If not where could I get the information? Munson has long since closed, and I'm pretty sure the record keeping wasn't great to begin with. I know that Worcester state has a cemetery, but I heard rumor that Munson used pauper's graves. Any information would be greatly helpful.
Additionally, I've lost the trail of my Grandmothers parents, Frank Brown and Sarah Sprovino. I located them in the 1920 census living in Shrewsbury with all my Aunts and Uncles, but there is no record of them living in Massachusetts before that. According to the 1920 census my Aunt Rose was born in 1908 in Massachusetts, as was every child after her (Mary 1910, Louis 1913 and Anne 1915), the first three (Samuel 1892, John 1898 and Antonio 1905) were born in Italy. Also from the same source the children arrived in 1906, but both parents arrived in 1895??
This is complicated by the fact that they were Italian immigrants (original name Imbrognio), that got massacred at immigration into Brown, and was misspelled in the census as Bunn. I never realized how many families were named Brown in Massachusetts alone! Does anyone have any connections to this family, I have tried Ellis Island and the immigrations search from Ancestry.com with no results. Any suggestions where to go next.
Thanks
Pam
