Subject: [MAWORCES] PROBATE for John THAYER b. 1 Mar 1725,d. aft 1818 Worcester Cty, MA
Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 13:21:01 -0500
I am searching for a probate record for John Thayer of Worcester County, MA,
to support an application to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
What I KNOW about John Thayer:
b. 1 Mar 1725 in Braintree, Norfolk, MA.
m. Rachel Skinner 28 Aug 1750 in Norton, Bristol, MA.
Had 11 children, all b. prob. Mansfield, Bristol, MA.
Early Court records #139597: John Thayer of Mansfield, yeoman, had
complaint about counterfeit money. Jul 31, 1771.
Revolutionary soldier.
Received land by deed from his son and d.-in-law, William and Polly
(Stevens) Thayer of Dana, Worcester, MA, on 5 Feb. 1818, as recorded in the
Worcester County Deeds 210-142. The land was divided between the westerly
part of Hardwick and the southerly part of Dana, with the buildings standing
in Dana. A second parcel of land was located in the northwesterly part of
Hardwick.
Said in the aforementioned deed to reside in Hardwick, Worcester, MA, in
1818.
Appears in the 1790 census at Hardwick with 1-1-3 [William b. 1771, m. 1793;
Fanny m. 1803 & Nancy m. 1797, twins b. 1773].
What I BELIEVE about John Thayer:
d. after 5 Feb. 1818 in either Dana or Hardwick, Worcester, MA.
SHOULD be the subject of a probate record transferring at least the land
that he received on 5 Feb. 1818, and perhaps more. I hope that this record
will name one or more of his 11 children.
Does anyone have any idea of how I might locate this probate record, or at
least the deed transferring John Thayer's land in Dana or Hardwick after his
death?
Thank you.
