Hi Worcester county,
I have been searching (forever, it seems!) for my great grandmother, Bridget
Davoren (Davern?, Davoran?) Burke and I have noticed that quite a few
Davorens settled in Milford, Mass. I wonder if her particulars sound
familiar to anyone in Milford? Bridget was born around 1853 in Ireland (I
believe). She married my great grandfather John Burke Feb 19, 1872 in
Catholic Chapel Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. Bridget's father was William
Davoren, a nailor. Davoren's lived on Edward St., Mitchelstown at the time
of the marriage. Bridget and John moved to Clogheen, Co. Tip and had their
3 children in 1876, 1878 (my grandfather Thomas) and 1880. I think in 1881
John and eldest child came to Mass. In 1884 Bridget comes to Mass. with 2
younger children. By 1900 census the family, without Bridget, is in Gardner,
Mass. Because of when Bridget came to USA (after 1880 census, 1890 census
doesn't exist) she has been difficult to find. I spent 2 days at Mass.
Archives in October looking at 114 Bridget Burkes who died in the state of
Mass. between 1880 (giving myself some leeway) and 1910....no luck. I don't
know if Bridget had siblings (I assume so) and just wonder if anyone from
her extended family may have settled in Milford, since there seems to be a
cluster of Davorens there. Any help in finding Bridget's death whereabouts
would be very much appreciated. Thank you....Liz in B.C. Canada
