Josiah Brittan Shattuck, proprietor of Worcester Trucking Company, was born
at Worcester
August 1, 1863, son of Rufus Watson & Sarah M. (Brittan) Shattuck. He is
descended in all his lines of ancestry from pioneers of New England.

Watertown.
The immigrant was a proprietor in 1642; a shoemaker and weaver by trade; died
1672.
William Shattuck (2) was a bricklayer at Watertown; a magistrate and town
officer.
Rev. Benjamin Shattuck (3) was a grad. of Harvard Coll. in 1709; a school
teacher of Watertown; first minister of the church at Littleton. His son Dr.
Benjamin Shattuck (4) practiced at Littleton. Jonathan Shattuck (5) removed from
Oxford, Mass. to Chesterfield, N.H., in 1781 and to Jaffrey or Townsend, VT,
1787.
Josiah Brittan Shattuck's father was a merchant and farmer in Worcester. He
was born at Bakersfield, VT June 17, 1824; m. in 1856, Sarah M. Brittan, dau.
of Josiah Brittan, Jr. The Brittan line of ancestry is: Sarah M. Brittan (6),
Josiah Brittan (5), Josiah Brittan (4), William Brittan (3), Samuel Brittan
(2) John Brittan (1). John Brittan, (1) was born abt 1680 and seems to be the
3rd generation in this country. He settled in Marlborough in 1724.

Josiah Brittan Shattuck was well-known in Masonic circles and was a member of
Athelstan Lodge, Eureka Chapter & Hiram Council. He was one of the most
active and efficient Republicans in the city. Although he was not himself an
office seeker, he always took an interest in city affairs and the welfare of the
party to which he belonged. He served two terms in the City Council from Ward
2, City of Worcester.

1. Marion Brittan Shattuck b. Sept 24, 1887; grad. at Worcester H.S. 1904 and
Bradford Academy; m. June 26, 1909, Dwight S. Brigham son of John S. Brigham
of this city; a grad. of Harvard College (A.B. 1908); engineer with the
Boston & Albany R.R. Co.; now Major, commanding the 2nd Battalion, 14th Railway
Engineers, since August 1917 on the staff of the general superintendent of War
Railways in France; residence in Newton Center, Mass.; Children: Nancy Shattuck
Brigham b. Aug 9, 1910 and Mary Stillman Brigham b. June 6, 1915.
2. Ruth Howe Shattuck b. in this city May 13, 1889; died here June 30, 1892.
3. Anna Woodbury Shattuck b. Nov 20, 1893; grad. Classical H.S. 1911 and
Baldwin School, Bryn Mawr, PA, 1913.
