I'll try to answer this...
I checked the LDS Family History Library Catalogue. You are right. The
Holbrook Collection (as it is referred to) is not listed in the catalogue that
way. Unfortunately, the indexing of that catalogue is inconsistent and you have
to be a bit creative to find certain things. If you do a "keyword search" and
put "Holbrook Vital Records" (without quotes) in the box. Many of the towns
he has done will come up on a list. If the one you want is there -- great!
If not, you will have use a different approach. Do a place search for the
Massachusetts town you are looking for and see if it comes up under "vital
records" there. I have not found a way (so far) to get the whole collection to come
up at once.

How it differs... J. Mack Holbrook photographed vital records in the towns.
Several differences include: He was able to do some of the towns that are
not included in the Massachusetts VR to 1850 series; he often includes church
records or town records in addition to vital records; and, because these are
originals rather than transcriptions, many of the omissions and errors of the
1850 books are cleared up.

Unfortunately, I remembered incorrectly. The Holbrook Collection is not on
film, only on microfiche. Therefore, you cannot borrow it. You will have to
use it at a large genealogy library that has a copy of the whole thing. Or, in
some cases, individual town libraries will have their own portion of the
collection available. I, personally, have used it in Salt Lake City.
