Debra:
I sorry you feel this way but I'm not doing my book for you. My own line
is Rev. Thomas Maxwell and Mary Pemberton as in the about subject line.
Our line is very well documented. I'm sure there are lots of mistakes in
my files as there is in yours and all this rest. All data that was
written down in the 1700 and 1800's was done by some uneducated people,
some couldn't spell correctly and record names the way they thought it
was spelled out or sound to them. If you do not wish your line to be in
my book or any other book then keep it to your self. But there are 50 or
60 people in my line waiting for me to finish all my research and they
are interested in what I've gather over the years. If your from the same
line as I am, then more than likely I have most of you data in my file
now, My file has 1200 pages on my Maxwell line and over 2,000 pages on
other Maxwell lines here in the US. The main reason for my data base is
to help others find connections, that they can't find them self. I have
help dozens and dozens over the years. This data base is going to be
very critical one day to help people link their lines using the thing of
the future DNA testing. How many places are left for people to search
that haven't already been searched? Yes, there are many Johns, Roberts,
Williams, Thomas's, Mary's, Sarah's, Elizabeth's along with many other
common names. But DNA will pin these down one day. It will narrow the
search and prove hundreds of people have the wrong data for their own
line and then they will be totally confused and lost as where to look. I
have worked with the DNA program some and study other lines besides my
own, because DNA is going to change how we gather data in the future.
There are a lot of folks out there who do not want to get involved with
the DNA testing, because they are afraid their data we be proven wrong
and they will have to start over. I've already seen this happen. Like I
said, sorry your feel this way, so keep your data to yourself, if you're
afraid to share it with other to review. If you find something on your
line or any other written down 200 hundred years ago, you can't consider
it accurate. So where do you draw the line? I found my great grandmother
listed in the 1880 Census as Lizzie Maxwell and different in three other
Census records, her marriage certificate listed her as Jane E. Reid, but
was a Reed, death certificate as Reginna Elizabeth Maxwell, and her
headstone as Elizabeth Regina Maxwell and other places as Lizzy. So
where do you select what's correct? You can't. You will never have your
line 100% correct or even 75% correct. It ain't going to happen. Because
everything was recorded by humans and humans all make mistakes, Why are
you even using this forum if you want your line private and perfect? Of
course we all want it perfect but it isn't going to happen. The rest of
us out here searching are trying to do the best we can, with what we
have to work with, case in point, if you don't want the world to see
your data keep it to yourself. So don't bother me with your thoughts and
ideas. I've invested many years searching my line to help and share with
anyone who wishes to see it.

Thanks,

Hi Larry,
I once again protest about putting some or all of the different Maxwell
lines in your, or any other book. I have stated this privately to
several people on this list writing books and I once again say that I
will not allow any of my data published on this list or on the internet
to be used in any book.

I have been educated and have 30 years experience working as a data
analyst. It has been my experience in researching five of my ancestor
lines that most people tracing their genealogy have wrong data. Many of
the people who write me, some from this list, don't understand the
principles of data gathering and have used names in their lines because
tradition has told them this.

It does not help that many of the different lines researched here have
the same names. How many of our lines have Robert or Thomas Maxwell as
their oldest ancestor? I know of dozens of them. Also, many people
have relied on family history and not on wills, birth, marriage or death
certificates. I, and my Maxwell data, am noted as source data on
several of the data lines on this list. Most of it is wrong. I have
numerous requests asking about my sources. I have been mis-copied,
mis-quoted and generally have people taking a Robert or Thomas from my
line, and using my name, because they were born about the same time or
the same place as their's was. All of our data is only as good as the
quality of research put into it. It has to be verifiable.

Whenever anyone copies my line or any other line into their own, or
writes a book using data that they have not personally verified, chances
are very high that they are perpetuating bad data for years and years to
come. Instead of helping future generations of genealogists, it hurts
and misleads them. I often update my lines and correct wrong data.
Once my line is copied into your book, your data is wrong. DATA SHOULD
BE STORED IN ONLY ONE PLACE. That way, when it is updated, there is
only one copy to update and any other copies won't be out of sync.
Future genealogists will have no problem finding my true data.
Unfortunately though, they will also find dozens of other versions of it
and none of it will match.

I love genealogy and I salute all of you who are on your fact finding
missions, just as I am. It is Very important that we share and discuss
data. Just please don't copy it and include it with yours.

Thanks,
Debbie Maxwell

Hi, Larry.

I have very little documentation, and most of what I have about the
Maxwells came from secondary sources and has not been verified by me.
Under those conditions, if you're still interested, I can send you what
I have, but I will stop short of living people.

Lowell
