My ancestor Joseph Maxwell (1783 SC - abt. 1862 AL) had at least two sons: my ggrandfather, Thomas L. Maxwell and William D. Maxwell who married Susan McDuffee in 1850. The mother of Thomas and William is unknown.
1870 Census, Pensacola, Escambia Co., FL,

William D. Maxwell, age 46, born AL, Carpenter and wife Susan, 44, born SC

Children all born in FLORIDA: Francis 13 Male: George 11 Male; Sarah J. age 7, F.; and John (V?), age 3, Male.

In the 1880 Census the family was still in Pensacola, FL, but the name was spelled Maxewell

Sarah was missing. Since she was 17 she may have been married. Does anyone know about the family of William D. Maxwell? Also see my web site
