In Nathaniel Morton's letter "To The Right Worshipful, Thomas Prence, Esq.,
Governor of the Jurisdiction of New Plymouth; With The Worshipful, The
Magistrates, His Assistants In The Said Government" that is found at the
beginning of "New England's Memorial", he says:
". . . the greatest part of my intelligence hath been borrowed from my much
honored uncle, Mr. William Bradford, and such manuscripts as he left in his
study, from the year 1620 unto 1646 . . .."
This does not specifically state that Morton got the list of signers of the
Compact from Bradford's manuscripts, but that would seem to be a likely
possibility.

. . .
I don't know what the most current thinking on this
is, would be interested in knowing, and am too lazy
to look it up for myself. As I understand, the list
of signers of the Compact is from _New England's
Memorial_ by Nathaniel Morton, and it is not known
whether Morton copied the list from the Compact itself
or some other authoritative source, or simply guessed
at who would have signed it. Does anyone know for
sure?
