Since the topic has been brought up, who is buried in the earliest grave in
Plymouth?
I have alphabetically and chronologically listed records for Dorchester's
Old North Burying Ground. The earliest extant grave named is that of
Bernard Capen of 1638, followed by that of Joan Capen, 1653. In all, there
are 23 extant graves with dates before 1680 in this listing. I believe I've
read somewhere that B. Capen's stone has been removed for
preservation/display at the NEHG Society in Boston, and that his is the
earliest surviving stone in New England.
