I'd say it looks VERY promising. After seeing the "Cushman" name and
recalling that I'd seen it on my aunt's notes before, as I had replied to
Dianne, I went and pulled that page out. The "unconnected/vaguely
connected" info that my aunt had was the name "Cushman" located in Savoy, MA
with the date "June 9, 1826" Alongside this info are the names "Fanny",
"Rosina Rice", "Sophia Braman" and "Albina Sophia", all somehow related to
that "Savoy, MA". "Sophia Braman" may also be connected to the place name
"Ashfield, MA".

Heh...the plot thickens. >:) LOL

As for Cushman ditching the kids and taking off to MI, I won't rule out the
possibility - it wouldn't be the first time a woman in my mom's family ended
up with her husband taking off or with the father ditching the kids and
disappearing. ^_^;

Thanks so much to those who are helping me out with this!

-Elizabeth

Dianne, we'll see what Elizabeth thinks, but that looks very promising
to me. I looked at the census page and I'd believe it's a K. If
Cushman is the father, there's an LDS file that says he's the son of Ira
and Keziah (Leonard) Fuller, and we do like seeing that name Keziah. I
believe this is a Mayflower line--there are files on the web that say
so, and it warms my old heart to see that if those files are correct the
line did go through East Haddam. I'm feeling frustrated because I have
to get back to work now and can't play this game until later.

I found a man I think is likely to be this Cushman in MI in, I think,
the 1900 census. He is listed there as b. 1826, which fits the LDS file
Cushman. If he was widowed between 1860 and 1870, left Abby with her
sister, who apparently then died herself, and went on to MI this might
all work. I can't find him in the census between 1860 and 1900, but
maybe there's a variant spelling or something. It would be nice to know
he was not with his daughter Abby in 1870.

Duty calls. Duty is actually screaming at me. I hope this works out.
I'll check back in a few hours to see if anything has developed.
