I'd like to add to Harlow's comment about the Alden Kindred's online
information, that a CD of the 8-generation project is now available from the
AKA. It includes all of the documentation which was submitted with member
applications, plus a great deal of additional information. I myself added
all of the information from *Little Compton Families* for the descendants of
Elizabeth and William Pabodie. The CD also includes a gedcom file of all of
the information. Although it's not free, at $20 + S&H, it's a pretty good
value.

I hope nobody takes offense at my posting. I thought that since the Alden
Kindred is a family association and nonprofit, this is not really a
commercial advertisement.

While I believe the great majority of us would agree with Dale that the
"trees" other people have posted online need to be verified before
accepted, there are lots of free resources. I would mention that Dale
has himself done a great deal of work putting dependable information
online. Rootsweb, and GenWeb through Rootsweb, have a lot, Jane Devlin,
who is a frequent contributer has placed a tremendous amount of
information online from sources such as the Barbour Collection, The
Alden Kindred is represented on this list, and they have a fine website
with caveats about what is not fully documented there, and there are
many, many more, several of them hosted by subscribers to this list.

I certainly don't disagree with Dale, who has demonstrated again and
again that he knows what he's talking about, but there's another side.
One just has to be cautious.

In fact there are so many free online resources that I at least would
have no idea what they all are. But here you are at one of them. Why
not tell us about the ancestors you're sure about at the point as far
back as you've gotten, and probably among the hundreds of people on this
list there will be people who can help, and in the process some of the
trustworthy online resources may come up? I suspect a whole lot of us
didn't even know our great-grandparents when we started--I didn't.
