A couple of comments to some comments:

I'm sure that anyone who decided to stay as a settler, would today be
classified as a "Mayflower ancestor".

I don't view this as being discriminatory. We are not "Mayflower"
descendants simply because our ancestors travelled on a ship of that name.
A group of people chose to leave their homes, some for religious reasons,
some not, and travel across an ocean, which at the time was still quite a
hazardous undertaking, and settle in a wilderness where they built their
homes and their new lives, and where they laid the foundation for a new
country and for others to follow them. For their sacrifices, their courage,
their beliefs, for what they endured, for what they suffered, to me, all of
this is behind the word "Mayflower" when we describe ourselves as Mayflower
descendants.
The ship was merely a means to a new beginning - and only those who stayed
(i.e. passengers) were a part of this wonderful new beginning.
