MARY HIGGINS of Claremorris, County Mayo, widow of Matthew Higgins, left my
great grandfather, EDWARD COSTELLO b. Ireland May, 1838, a very generous
inheritance in 1889 ..... and I do not know why!

Was she his mother, remarried? Was she his married sister? Was she "paying
off" because she was so grateful that he had fought in the Civil War 25
years earlier in the place of her son, EDWARD HIGGINS, a farmer of
Tarrytown, New York?

Perhaps you will want to look for MARY & MATTHEW HIGGINS in Claremorris,
whom we know had relatives in the US, and help clear up my mystery as
well!?!

Have a wonderful trip, Margaret!
