Dear Earl,
I think that we would have a connection somewhere, as I think that most of
the MACCASKILL FAMILY lived on the Island of Lewis in ROSS & COMARTY
Only one or two families were in the Glenelg parish.of INVERNESSSHIRE
When I find Marriage Certs and Death certs, I will keep you in mind.
Where I found the name MCCASKILL WAS on the 1861 census of Glenelg Parish in
Invernessshire, Scotland. My 2ggmother Catherine MCDONALD (ms MACRAE)
Widow had a grandchild Malcolm MCCASKILL living with her, and I did
find that Margaret MCDONALD did marry a John MCCASKILL IN 1847 (she was born
in Glenelg in 1829) but I am not sure if it is my Margaret. But one of the
girls had a MCCASKILL child???? Whether it was legitimate of illegitimate??

Hi Janet,
My ancestors came to Eastern Ontario, Canada in the early 1800's (sometime
between 1800 and 1830). Therefore, I doubt that I can be of any help to
you.
My grandfather was John James McCaskill (b. June 3, 1886: d. Sept. 23,
1977). He had an aunt Margaret (b. Sept. 17, 1841: d. Feb. 27, 1866). My
great-great grandfather was a Kenneth McCaskill (b. about 1800 in Glenelg,
Scotland and d. Apr 8, 1856 in Canada) who married a Mary McRae (b. Sept.
12, 1809 in Glenelg and d. Oct 31, 1888 in Canada) on Oct 1, 1833 in
L'original, Ontario, Canada.
We have several connections with the McRae's: more so than with the
McLeods, even though we are a sept of the McLeods.
I have been unable to find anything about my gggrandfather Kenneth's
parents/siblings, whereas, I have more info about Mary McRae's family.
Good luck in your research.
Earl
