are you saying You had never heard of Brooke County, VA? It became Brooke
Co, WV.
THe area is across the Ohio river, just east of Steubenville, OH &
south of Weirton, now Hancock co WV? It lies just west of Washington co PA.
I'm a member of the Brooke County WV Genealogy Society. They have a great
website.
I've been researching the Ralstons in the area there for over 10 years.

My early Ralston family settled on Kings Creek in 1775-1783 (also called
Indian Creek),
just north of Hollidays cove & Weirton. At the time they settled there VA &
PA both
claimed the land in the area. Before that it was a part of Ohio Co VA, &
before that
Augusta or West Augusta..going back in time the land changed counties
several times.
earlier part of Youghoginia? (sp??) don't quote me on those changes but it's
easy to find
dates on the county website. i think it was about 1848 that Brooke county
split into
Hancock county to the north of Weirton then it became WV.
So it's fun to search 'all the records in the area.. for clues. <G> of
course when the
Ohio river was low the couples walked over there to marry..so you need to
search
all the records in early VA, PA, OH. so fun.

My Ralstons land was right on the VA/PA county state line when it was
established.
My GGG grandfather Samuel Ralston 1801-1881 married Elizabeth McConnell
& are buried at the Three Springs Cemetery in Weirton.
I've found a few other McConnells in the area but can't find proof on
Elizabeths parents,
we think she was born around 1805 & died in 1875.
