The McCRACKEN who sold land to GEORGE WASHINGTON in 1750 was JAMES. He lived
in what is now Hampshire County,W.Va. He was kiled by Indians in ca. 1756.
He did have 2 daughters, who were possibly the 2 who were supposed to have
been taken by the Indians, but later returned. This JAMES McCRACKEN was Town
Clerk of Lebanon,Hunterdon County,New Jersey. He moved to Orange County,Va.
in ca. 1739. He had a son JAMES whose wife was SARAH OSMAN. They also moved
from New Jersey to Hampshire County,W.Va. WILLIAM ans SARAH were parents of
ISAAC,WILLIAM,OVID,CYRUS,SENECA,VIRGIL and several daughters. One of these
sons had a son VIRGIL who was killed during the War of 1812. McCracken
County,Kentucky was named after him. Sons ISAAC and WILLIAM were killed at
the Battle of Blue Licks in Kentucky in 1783.

PA. Indians killed him and took his daughters. Daughters later excaped. I
read somewhere that Elam was an illegitimate child, so therefore, maybe she
named him as she was named "McCracken".

generation. That is why I am looking into the G.W. connection, but without
a lot of luck.
