COL. JAMES E. McCRACKEN IS TAKEN BY DEATH
Long Illness Is Fatal to Leader in Campbell co., Funeral Services Will Be Held Monday 2:30 P.M.
Col. James E. McCracken, 84, Bonnie Leslie ave, Campbell-co, died late Friday at his home, following a lingering illness.
Col. McCracken was one of the most prominent business men in northern Kentucky. He had lived in Campbell-co for more than 60 years and was active in business and lodge circles.
He was president of the J.E. McCracken Co., Cincinnati, and president of the Newport Mutual Fire Insurance Co. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Newport Building and Loan Association.
Knights of Pythias Lodge, of which he was a member, will hold services Sunday night.
Col. McCracken was one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil War, having served thruout the war as a drummer boy.
He was born in Cincinnati and came to Campbell-co at an early age to live with his uncle, Robert McCracken, who was at one time mayor of Newport.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Maddox McCracken, and several nieces and nephews. He had no children.
Last rites will be held at the chapel of the Charles A. Smith Sons Co., 32 E. Fourth-st, Newport, Monday at 2:30 p.m. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
