The McCRACKEN County in Kentucky was named after VIRGIL who was indeed born in Kentucky. He was a son of CYRUS son of WILLIAM. WILLIAM was probably born in Hunterdon County,New Jersey where he md. SARAH OSMAN. They moved to Hampshire County,Va. in ca. 1849. This is where CYRUS was born. He later moved to Kentucky. Clyde

I am not yet sure of my connections to Kentucky. But the Virgil McCracken that they named McCracken county for was not from Kentucky. It may have been Ohio or Illinois.

My great great grandmother, Molly Mary Dunn VanMeter married Virgil McCracken but did not have any children. They then divorced. Molly Dunn was born in Ireland to Evaline and Dennis Dunn, and adopted by David and Fanny VanMeter in 1854 or so.

Molly then went on to marry Dorsey Board and had 5 children. Any help you could give me would be fabulous!!

Virgil seems to have just disappeared. I can find nothing about him at all.
