I think that this JAMES McCRACKEN was from Hunterdon County,New Jersey where
he was Township Clerk in 1732 & 1733. ( I think that is right). He
apparently moved to Hampshire County,Va. in ca 1748. I have copies of the
deeds where he bought land which he later sold to GEORGE WASHINGTON. He was
possibly related to WILLIAM McCRACKEN Sen. who also lived in Hunterdon
County,NJ & also moved to Hampshire County. WILLIAM had about 6 sons, two of
them were killed by Indians at the Battle of Blue licks in what is now
Kentucky. They were WILLIAM Jun. & ISAAC. My ancestor was a CHARLES
McCRACKEN who lived in Fleming County,Ky. from ca. 1798 & died there in
1826. I have not been able to find out anything on his ancestors, but think
he also lived at Hampshire County,Va.
